De 488 Pista is de opvolger van Ferrari's special serie met V8-motor
zoals de 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale die alle drie zijn ontvangen met lovende kritieken vanwege hun prestaties en sublieme handling.
De Ferrari 488 Pista betekent een significante stap voorwaarts ten opziche van de laatste special serie voor wat betreft sportieve dynamica en het niveau van uit de racerij afkomstige technologie. De naam is een eerbetoon aan Ferrari's ongeëvenaarde erfenis in de autosport.
